Much more than a typical “Pro Athlete”.

Reggie Williams on life in the QC, the Bobcats and giving back!
Reggie Williams is so much more than a typical (or what you think) is the typical Pro Athlete. A Shooting Guard for your Charlotte Bobcats does so much more than “play ball”; he spends time doing so many positive things within our community as well as dedicating time and energy to his hometown community in Virginia. I got the opportunity to sit and chat with Reggie about a few things and learned he has so much to offer the Charlotte community outside of his Basketball skills.
Approaching the one year anniversary of joining the Charlotte Bobcats, Reggie has settled in quite nicely to the Queen City. “It feels like home” he says of the QC, having that same feel as his hometown Prince George, Virginia. “The people here in Charlotte are warm, friendly and inviting and it just has that Southern Hospitality feel.” With the city growing and changing Reggie could definitely see himself staying here, so hopefully The Bobcats will keep him here long term! Reggie has a positive outlook on the teams’ growth this season and speaks highly of his teammates projecting a much better season this year.
Basketball clearly his first love, Reggie also has a passion for helping others that stemmed from him being afforded the chance by his Father to get out of his small town to travel, go to sporting events, visit amusement parks and see the world. Coming back home he saw there were many people he went to school with or played ball with that may not have had a Father like his in their lives or had parents who simply could not afford those things and that stirred the desire to give back to families and children who are less fortunate. Wanting to help with the hopes of being able to do anything you put your mind to, he started Reggie Williams Shooting Stars Basketball Camp where he is able to teach, mentor and interact with youth in his community in his hometown. He has partnered with other Charlotte Pro Athletes’ such as Carolina Panthers Steve Smith and Samaritans Feet, where they have donated time, and new shoes to children in need. Enjoying the program and their cause profusely, Reggie intends to continue working with Samaritans Feet to help ensure that local children in need are provided what some of us take for granted everyday…new shoes. He’s volunteered his time most recently at Presbyterian Hospital, visiting with the children there and their families.
Education is very important to Reggie who holds a degree in Psychology from Virginia Military Institute and is a bit of a History buff; he wants young people to be just as passionate and involved in their education. An avid reader himself, he’s partnered with Ross Stores for Reading Time Out and dedicates time to visiting kids in schools for reading and speaking engagements to stress the importance of education. This holiday season Reggie has events planned at Charlotte area schools Ranson Middle and Oakdale Elementary.
An easy going, fun loving person Reggie has a heart of gold and plans on getting involved in other projects and charities. He is a true asset to the Bobcats and our community Reggie Williams is exactly the type of person you want on your team.
