Charlotte Seniors Groove to Elvis Tribute
Charlotte, North Carolina – It’s not going to be a Blue Christmas for seniors at The Charlotte Assisted Living and Memory Care. South Charlotte’s newest retirement community kicked off their holiday season with a Happy Hour and a special tribute performance by Elvis Presley! Embodying the spirit of “the King”, entertainer, Jeff Keener had the crowd swooning and dancing in their seats as he sang hit songs that were made famous by the best-selling solo artist in the history of recorded music.
For the residents of The Charlotte, these performances bring back fond memories of purchasing their first Elvis album or watching him appear on The Ed Sullivan Show in the 50’s. “From 1956 until his death in 1977, Elvis was the biggest star on the planet. Everyone living in that time frame was touched in some way by his music, concerts, movies or TV appearances” said Keener. “My tribute to Elvis focuses on remembering all of the feats he accomplished and the great memories that you have from his music, it’s a fun trip down memory lane.”
Senior living communities that provide unique activities, outings and entertainment, like Elvis, are important for today’s seniors. Senior isolation is common, with about 11 million or 28% of people aged 65 and older living alone (U.S. Census Bureau). “The holidays can be difficult for seniors. That’s why having access to social and dining events that are readily available are important” said The Charlotte’s Executive Director, Ashley Parrish. “Our Members are able to step outside of their door and enjoy all of the holiday activities that make this time of year so much fun.”
