Optimist Hall Announces Two New Tenants

Chicago-based Folkart Management to open second location of nationally acclaimed cocktail bar Billy Sunday as well as a new concept – The Spindle Bar – at Optimist Hall

White Point Partners and Atlanta-based Paces Properties are pleased to announce that Billy Sunday and The Spindle Bar will be joining the tenant line-up to anchor beverage programming at Optimist Hall.

Renowned Chicago-based cocktail bar Billy Sunday, known for classic drinks, adventurous new creations and a deep library of vintage spirits, will open its second location (slated for early fall) at Optimist Hall. At Billy Sunday, nearly all cocktail components are prepared in-house, including syrups, tonics, bitters, and hard-carved ice. Local produce and provisions play a pivotal role in the menu, along with drinks inspired by Southern tradition.

The Spindle Bar will reside within the food hall at Optimist Hall, providing a relaxed drinking option for both guests who want to sit and those who want to wander. Also led by Billy Sunday Mixologist Stephanie Andrews, The Spindle Bar will be an all-day destination for easy-drinking cocktails, slated to open in late summer alongside the food hall’s first group of tenants. Both Billy Sunday and The Spindle Bar are owned by Chicago-based hospitality group Folkart Management.

Patrons of the food hall will have the opportunity to enjoy cocktails, beer, and wine from The Spindle Bar and various food hall tenants throughout designated areas of the Optimist Hall property. A refreshing cocktail in the courtyard or a local craft beer among communal seating will make for a one-of-a-kind experience in the city of Charlotte.

“We are pleased to bring an award-winning cocktail purveyor from Chicago’s Logan Square to Optimist Hall, said Erik Johnson, co-founder of White Point Partners. “Matthias and the Folkart Team share our passion for quality and design. We believe their concepts – Billy Sunday and The Spindle Bar – will be a tremendous asset to Charlotte’s food & beverage community.”

Billy Sunday

CONCEPT: One of the first bars nationwide to offer an extensive collection of aged amaro, Billy Sunday has carved out a niche as a purveyor of rare bottles, a destination for excellent craftmanship and a home to highly regarded beverage experts. Award-winning Mixologist Stephanie Andrews, the creative force behind the new outpost, developed a Southern expression of Billy’s distinctive spirit. The menu will spotlight a mix of signature drinks along with new cocktails inspired by local distillers and ingredients. FC Studio, the notable design firm behind the original Billy Sunday, is creating the 1,500 square foot bar featuring 60 indoor seats and a 50-seat patio, ideal for al fresco sipping.

STATS: Free-standing space (~1,500 SF) within Optimist Hall

QUOTE: “We are thrilled to bring Billy Sunday to Charlotte and meld into the fabric of local cocktail culture,” said Chef Matthias Merges, Proprietor of Folkart Management. “While visiting a few years ago, I fell in love with the energy and aesthetic of Charlotte. I recognized a truly dynamic beverage community and we’re honored to participate.”

The Spindle Bar

CONCEPT: Inspired by a mid-century tap with Southern hospitality and the fun of a front porch party, the 18-seat bar will serve refreshing draft cocktails, beer, wine and non-alcoholic beverages. Also led by Billy Sunday Mixologist Stephanie Andrews, the cocktail menu will celebrate fruit-forward flavors and creative spins on classic pairings, meant to enjoy as you wander through the food hall. A vintage mobile cocktail truck will be stocked with local beers and seasonal draft cocktails.

STATS: Set within the food hall, The Spindle Bar conjures the relaxed vibe of a warm and welcoming patio party. The Spindle Bar will seat 18 guests.

QUOTE: “The opportunity to reimagine the spirit of Billy Sunday in Charlotte has been an incredible experience, along with the chance to create an entirely new cocktail bar from scratch with Spindle,” said Stephanie Andrews, Mixologist for Billy Sunday and The Spindle Bar. “We can’t wait to open our doors and start connecting with the local community.”
