SHARE Charlotte Announces $250,000 Grant from Wells Fargo to Support #GivingTuesdayCLT

November 3, 2016 (CHARLOTTE, N.C.) – Local nonprofit SHARE Charlotte has announced a $250,000 grant from Wells Fargo. The purpose of the Wells Fargo Give Good Fund is to support SHARE Charlotte’s goal of raising $8 million in their 3rd annual #GivingTuesdayCLT campaign, presented by Google Fiber and Wells Fargo. The two-week campaign will take place Nov. 15 – Nov. 29, and is designed to jumpstart the giving season and inspire Charlotteans to give money, time and/or much-needed items to benefit the 173 local nonprofits participating in the campaign.

The Wells Fargo Give Good Fund is a $250,000 grant to incent #GivingTuesdayCLT partner nonprofits to generate as much financial support as they can during the two-week campaign. The fund will be distributed by SHARE Charlotte to #GivingTuesdayCLT partner nonprofits based on the percentage of the overall total financial donations raised during the campaign by an individual nonprofit organization. For example, if a nonprofit organization raises 10 percent of the overall total cash generated during the campaign, that nonprofit organization will receive a check for 10 percent of the Wells Fargo Give Good Fund. The value of in-kind donations and volunteer time will not be eligible for inclusion in the matching challenge.

“While we want everyone in the community to give what they can, at the end of the day nonprofits need money,” said Kelly Brooks, Executive Director of SHARE Charlotte. “Wells Fargo has stepped up to engage the community and give greater meaning to everyone’s financial donations!”

“Our goal is to support the great work these nonprofits are doing across the Charlotte region,” said Kendall Alley, regional president for Wells Fargo. “We are working with SHARE Charlotte to provide a way for others to get involved and maximize their support for causes that are important to them. Investing in this effort to help build strong and vibrant communities, improve the quality of life, and make a positive difference in Charlotte is one of the most important things we can do as a company.”

In today’s climate, #GivingTuesdayCLT presents a unique opportunity to rally ALL of Charlotte – 173 nonprofits, more than 70 local businesses, sponsors and community partners spanning from Lake Norman to Center City to Ballantyne — around the common interest of doing good for our city.

In 2015 the two-week #GivingTuesdayCLT campaign raised $4.2 million for 108 nonprofits and partnered with more than 40 sponsors, local businesses and community organizations. This year, SHARE’s goal is to raise $8 million dollars that will stay right here in our community. The campaign will launch with a market-style event inspired by “good,” at Unknown Brewing Co. on Tuesday, Nov. 15, and will include a collaboration with Kendra Scott on Saturday, Nov. 19, a Checkers Game on Tuesday, Nov. 22 and more! The campaign concludes on Giving Tuesday itself (Nov. 29). On this day SHARE and a handful of nonprofits will set up its daytime headquarters at Google Fiber, followed by a closing celebration.
