Sonny’s BBQ Raises Over $109,000 and Delivers 4,200 lbs. of Supplies for Hurricane Dorian Relief
Partnerships with The Salvation Army, Sysco and Air Unlimited helped raise funds and deliver resources to the Bahamas
MAITLAND, Fla. (Oct. 9, 2019) – Sonny’s BBQ announces today through partnerships with The Salvation Army, Sysco and Air Unlimited it helped raise more than $109,000 and delivered over 4,200 lbs. of supplies to people in the Bahamas affected by Hurricane Dorian.
“The Salvation Army has been responding to the world’s disasters for more than 100 years, with immediate relief, ongoing recovery, and emotional and spiritual care,” says Salvation Army Territorial Director of Communications Christopher Priest. “The Salvation Army is forever grateful to many partners who come alongside both us and other agencies. Sonny’s has been very generous in allowing us to maintain our promise to do the most good, especially to those affected by Hurricane Dorian.”
All Sonny’s locations throughout the month of September donated a portion of Monday sales to The Salvation Army. The money raised will be used to support Hurricane Dorian relief efforts for those impacted in both the Bahamas and the United States.
Through a collaboration between Sonny’s, Sysco and Air Unlimited, supplies were also collected and flown directly to those in need in the Bahamas. Local communities donated these supplies to Sonny’s locations throughout September. Sysco arranged pick up of the supplies from each location and delivered them to Air Unlimited in Sanford, Florida, who then flew them directly to those in need in the Bahamas.
“The destruction caused by Hurricane Dorian has been heartbreaking,” says Sonny’s VP of Operations Billy Brewer. “This storm hit close to home as most of our restaurants are located in the southeast where we’re prone to hurricanes. Our mission at Sonny’s is to spread the spirit of BBQ and one of the ways we do that is by supporting and helping those in need. It’s our privilege to help our neighbors who were affected by the storm. We’re grateful for our partners and guests who made this possible. Our thoughts are with the victims as they begin to rebuild.”
