Sugar Creek Brewing Company in Charlotte, NC Receives Two Gold Medals at the U.S. Open Beer Champion
The Sugar Creek Raspberry White Ale and the Sugar Creek Biére de Garde were both awarded a Gold Medal in the 2016 U.S. Open Beer Championship, announced on July 11, 2016.
Charlotte, NC. The Sugar Creek beer engineers awoke to an exciting email, announcing the brewery has won not one, but two, Gold Medals at the 2016 U.S. Open Beer Championship. For this competition, breweries from Hawaii to Germany submit nearly 5,000 beers for judging, representing over 90 different styles. On July 11, 2016 in Oxford, OH, U.S. Open judges from England, Canada and the United States announced the 2016 winners.
The Sugar Creek Biére de Garde received a Gold Medal in the French / Belgian Ale category of the U.S. Open Beer Championship. The Sugar Creek Raspberry White Ale, brewed with over 800 pounds of fresh raspberries, received a Gold Medal in the Belgian Style Fruit Beer category of the U.S. Open Beer Championship.
Todd Franklin, the Brewmaster at Sugar Creek Brewing Company commented, “We are incredibly honored to have our beer awarded Gold Medals in the U.S. Open Beer Championship. My team and I work exceptionally hard to brew high quality, great tasting beer for the Carolinas. The Biére de Garde, in particular, can sometimes be an intimidating choice to new craft beer drinkers because ‘Biére de Garde’ doesn’t readily describe the tasting experience. I think most people would be surprised at how approachable this malt-forward Belgian Amber Ale is. We use eight different specialty malts to produce a magnificently complex malt profile, and French Strisselspalt hops to create a mildly spicy and floral bouquet aroma. The end result is a smooth and drinkable ale reminiscent of a lager but with full flavored ale fruitiness that we think beer drinkers are really going to enjoy.”

The Sugar Creek Raspberry White Ale is available on draught at North and South Carolina restaurants, bars and the Sugar Creek Brewery Tap Room. The Sugar Creek Biére de Garde is available on draught, by growler and in bottle conditioned 750 ML bottles.
