Ten Things To Do Near Charlotte


As the temperature rises everyone is looking for something to do to have some summer fun. Luckily you don’t have to go too far to find summer adventure and fun with so much to do in and around the Queen City. Ride the thrilling roller coasters at Carrowinds or try out their newly refurbished waterpark, a Caroline landmark and a great place to have some family fun. If you are looking for a water park without burning your feet waiting in lines then visit Ray’s Splash planet, a massive indoor waterpark with water-slides to help fight the summer heat. If you are looking for something a little more adventurous then look no further than Carolina Adventure World, rent one or two of their ATV’s, dirt bikes, or jeeps and speed around their extensive acreage. You don’t have to venture into the mountains to have an adventure on the river, just head over to the White Water Rafting Center, a great place to take your friends and have a blast! With a trained guide and the spirit of adventure it is an experience to remember.

A more relaxed way to spend the afternoon is to load your family and friends up in the car and take a drive through the Lazy 5 Ranch. Buy a few buckets of feed and see some friendly animals up close and personal, from ostriches, zebras, Giraffes, and Lammas to cows and goats. You could also try your hand at disk golfing at almost any of the parks around Charlotte, the courses vary from park to park so you can make it a weekly event to go and try the disk golf course at a different park each weekend. All you need are a few disks, which you can find at Infinities End. If you don’t have the space or the money for a bike to get around town then why not try out the City Bike service? They offer rental bikes at various locations around Charlotte where you can rent and return them via the kiosks. They come with baskets so you have a place to put your purse while you ride.

While Food Truck Friday might have been moved further down the light rail trail, Every Friday night starting at 5pm the Friday Night Festival features several food trucks and live music in the parking lot of Unknown Brewery. The Food trucks change from week to week so you’ll want to come back weekly to see what they have to offer. Then there is the option of relaxing at Lake Norman with some family and friends for the day, there are plenty of rental places to choose from. Then at the end of the day you can book a dinner cruise around Lake Norman with Queen’s Landing/Lake Cruises Inc. At a cruising speed of 12 knots enjoy a smooth ride around the lake while you have dinner and wind down after a fun day at the lake. There is never a lack of fun activities to do or places to go around Charlotte as long as you know where to look.
